Please note : the Bicycle Doctor shop will close at 2pm on Thursday 24th December 2009 and reopen at 10am on Monday 4th January 2010.

World Carfree Day

Today is World Carfree Day (or In Town Without My Car Day, depending on who you ask). If you normally drive to work or school then today’s designed as a day for trying an alternative. Obviously we here at Bicycle Doctor would recommend you try a bicycle, but you can use any alternative you choose. The idea is that you’ll try it today, realise “oh, that’s so much better/less stressful/more fun/etc than driving” and work the alternative into your everyday life.

So go on, what are you waiting for… on ya bike!

I Bike MCR Mini Festival

It’s almost that time of year again!
That’s right kids, in two short weeks the I Bike MCR Mini Festival will be upon us with a weeks worth of cycling fun and adventures to be had. Running from the 5th til the 11th October the festival will host a range of FREE events from maintenance classes to film nights and historic tours of the city to bike polo. School offers GCSE in BMX riding

A Derby school has announced that it will offer cycling as part of a GCSE next term.
Sinfin Community School will now include mountain biking, ‘cyclo-cross’ and BMX riding as part of its PE GCSE from September.
The school already offers cycling on its curriculum, which is being rolled out to all Derby secondary schools from next term.
Practical assessment makes up 60% of the examination.
The school also has its own ‘cyclo-cross’ track. The sport involves riders racing on a cross country track.
